Johan Keller (1863 - 1944). Johannes Verhulst (1816 - 1891). Marble. The composer Johannes Verhulst wrote a symphony, string quartets, choir and church music, but is best known for his Kinderliederen (Children`s songs), with words by Jan Pieter Heije. Verhulst studied with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and was acquainted with the composer Robert Schumann. As a conductor he was associated with several music societies in The Hague and Amsterdam. In 1892 this marble bust was donated to the Rijksmuseum by the Committee for the Placement of a Tribute to Joh. J.H. Verhulst in the Rijksmuseum.
