This plate was painted to commemorate Harmannus Laurents Discher, who, according to a contemporary document, held the office of ‘Head of the commissioners and prau skippers in Batavia.’ (A prau is a type of Malayan sailing boat.)

  • Description

    Bord van porselein, beschilderd op het glazuur in rood, zwart en goud. Op het plat een wapen met de pelikaan die haar jongen voedt uit haar borst. Het helmteken is een vogel. Het wapen is omgeven door acanthusbladeren. Om het wapen het opschrift: 'TER GEDACHTENIS VAN HERMANNUS LAURENTS DISCHER HOOFT VAN COMMISSARISSEN EN PRAUW-VOERDERS OP BATAVIA Ao. 1749'. Op de rand vier bloemtakken (pioen, chrysant, iris) en een spearhead-border. Wapenporselein met emailkleuren.
