Fujio Yoshida (mentioned on object), 1906

At age eleven, Fujio Yoshida was the only woman to receive lessons at Fudosha, a renowned private school of painting in Tokyo. She described her experience in her diary: ‘It must have been a strange sight, a woman among all those men. I was embarrassed when people from the village came to watch us during our outdoor lessons.’
