This dish depicts women in various guises as they appear in the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. The woman with two sabres next to a large spider’s web is intriguing. She represents seven sisters, who are actually demons in the form of spiders. They catch the monk Tang Sanzang in their web, but are defeated by his disciples.

    Schotel van porselein met ronde wand, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw en op het glazuur blauw, rood, groen, geel, aubergine, zwart en goud. Op het plat in een medaillon drie musicerende vrouwen in een omheinde tuin; rond dit medaillon verschillend gevormde cartouches met scènes uit de Xiyou Ji, 'De Reis naar het Westen', tegen een grond van servetwerk; de rand met bloemrozetten in een cartouche met aan weerszijden een ruyi-motief afgewisseld met verschillende geometrische patronen. De achterzijde met drie bloemtakken. Gemerkt op de onderzijde met een artemisiablad in een dubbele cirkel. Een chip en twee barsten in de rand. Oud label op de onderzijde met 'A. Staal Antiquaire/ Rokin 156/ Amsterdam'. Famille verte.
