Head from the roof ornaments of Candi Bima. Indonesia, Central Java, Dieng Plateau. 9th century. Volcanic stone (andesite). This head is from the roof of Candi Bima. Several of these heads were carved in niches on the roof. They seem to be peering through windows. They were designed to be viewed from below.
