This print belongs to the series Scherzi di fantasia, a title perhaps best translated as ‘Fantastic jokes.’ In these prints Tiepolo was not telling a story, but rather transporting the viewer into a bizarre dream world populated by wizards and fabulous creatures. Death and decay are continually on the lurk.
