Model of a cathead with anchor release gear.

The cathead has two sheaves in the head, three thumb cleats on one side and a tripping gear on the other, consisting of a pair of jaws and a lever for releasing.

Although only one model of W. van Houten’s anchor release is mentioned in the archives,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 633; HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 18/12/1826 N11. a similar cathead with anchor release gear by Van Houten was installed on the model of the East Indiaman Vergelijking (NG-MC-658).
