Model of a cathead with anchor release gear.

The cathead has two sheaves in the head, three thumb cleats on one side and a tripping gear on the other, consisting of a pair of jaws and a lever for releasing.

Although only one model of W. van Houten’s anchor release is mentioned in the archives,¹¹J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 633; HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 18/12/1826 N11. a similar cathead with anchor release gear by Van Houten was installed on the model of the East Indiaman Vergelijking (NG-MC-658).
