Erik van Ginkel studied law at the University of Amsterdam. He held positions as in-company lawyer/board secretary for the Mondriaan Foundation and was acting director of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds before joining Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam as its managing director in 2006. In 2011 he was appointed as managing director of the Rijksmuseum.


Next to this appointment Erik has been vice-chair of the Dutch Museum Association and chair of the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. He currently holds positions as member of the supervisory boards of NDT in The Hague and ITA in Amsterdam, amongst others.
