The Rijksmuseum shows the story of 800 years of Dutch art and history. It is composed of the following sectors:

• Gallery of Honour and The Night Watch - Go to the Great Hall
• 1100-1600 – Go to Room 0.1
• 1600-1650 – Go to Room 2.1
• 1650-1700 – Go to Room 2.15
• 1700-1800 – Go to Room 1.1
• 1800-1900 – Go to Room 1.12

• Special Collections – Go to Room 0.13

  Via the "In the museum" section of the app you can use the “Go to" tab to look up where you want to go. The interactive floor plan will then show you the way.
  Or you can get a printed floor plan from the Information Desk.

Yes, just go to the "In the museum" tab in the app. There you have a choice between the highlights tour and other thematic tours. If you are interested in a particular section of the Rijksmuseum, you can choose a highlights tour of that section as well.
You can also simply wander around and enter in the app a number that is displayed alongside 350 of the artworks.

If you prefer not to use your own phone, you can hire a device for 5 euros at the Multimedia Tours Desk.

Yes, go to the "In the museum" section and select the “For me" tab, where you can make a route to see the artworks of your choice. You can also select someone else’s route.

In general, the busiest times are at the weekend, during the holidays and in high season. It is usually quieter in the morning from 09.00 to 12.00 and in the afternoon after 15.00.

The Gallery of Honour and the Night Watch Room are the busiest parts of the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum is a very big building and there are always places that are less busy. For instance, take a look at the Asian Pavilion, section 1700 - 1800, the Special Collections or sections 1900 -1950 and 1950 - 2000.

The Rijksmuseum is open every day from 09.00 to 17.00.

Yes, everyone has to book a starting time in advance, apart from Friends of the Rijksmuseum. As a Friend you can always get into the museum free of charge without having to book a starting time.

Yes. The entire museum is open until 17.00. Go to the exhibition or take the guided tour at the reserved starting time, then you can visit the rest of the museum afterwards.
