ACQUISITIONS
The Rijksmuseum manages a collection of Dutch and international masterpieces and makes them accessible to as broad a public as possible. The collection affords insights into Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages onwards, and into European and Asian art. The support of funding bodies is vital to our efforts to make new purchases that enhance the collection.
The Friends’ Lottery (VriendenLoterij) and several funding bodies provide support for major acquisitions. The Friends’ Lottery has been making an annual contribution since 1998 for the purchase of artworks, and the support from the Rembrandt Society and the National Acquisition Fund run by the Department for Education, Culture and Science (OCW, via the Mondriaan Fund) has enabled us to make a substantial number of major acquisitions over the years.
