The new RIJKS® restaurant is open!

The Rijksmuseum’s restaurant RIJKS® reopens today following extensive refurbishment, at its familiar location on Museum Square. Executive chef Joris Bijdendijk and his team are poised to enter the next phase with new dishes on the menu and a refreshed interior design.

Bijdendijk, who is in the Best Chef Awards Top 100 for the sixth consecutive year, has been putting together a new menu with chefs Yascha Oosterberg and Friso van Amerongen, and the whole RIJKS® team. Alongside classics like the beetroot mille-feuille, the new RIJKS® NEXT menu features plenty of new and innovative dishes – like the crispy roast cockscomb with Dutch shrimp sambal. The dynamic ambience with a personal touch comes courtesy of our hospitality team, headed by Tiffany Kensmil. Our sommelier Robin Toen, meanwhile, has compiled a new wine menu featuring fresh talent alongside the classic names.
Partnering with Dutch designers
The new RIJKS® interior again comes from the mind of designer Paul Linse, who this time has selected natural materials and colours that bring a sense of warmth to the new restaurant. We have extended the kitchen, so diners throughout the restaurant will now be able see the chefs and sommeliers preparing their food and wines. That means as a guest you will feel even more part of the RIJKS® experience. Male members of the RIJKS® team will be wearing attire by Atelier Munro, while the clothes worn by female team members were designed by Erik Frenken. ‘The two designers have created fantastic collections that are a perfect fit for RIJKS®,’ explains Bijdendijk, ‘They have a modern elegance rooted in classic techniques and styles, and were made with an eye for detail and the very best quality.’ Designer Irma Boom is once again overseeing the restaurant’s graphic identity.
Coming soon at the RIJKS®
After the grand opening, RIJKS® will be looking forward to the winter festive period. Over Christmas, we will be serving a specially curated menu for lunch and dinner. And on New Year’s Eve, between lunch and dinner time we will offer a luxury ‘Dunch’ menu so our guests can take their time enjoying a sumptuous meal and still be on time to enjoy the festivities at midnight. We’ve also got lots of plans for the New Year, including the upcoming announcement of the first guest chef event at the new RIJKS®, when we will be joined by a top-name chef.
