Explanatory note

  • Claude Mellan was behalve schilder en tekenaar vooral graveur. Hij had een geheel eigen, virtuose techniek. Zijn omvangrijke grafische oeuvre omvat bijna 400 bladen, waarvan de helft uit portretten bestaat.
