Writing table

Jean François Oeben, c. 1760

Oeben, originally from Germany, specialized in furniture with complicated mechanical parts. When the surface of this desk is pushed back, the inner compartment with a writing panel slides forward. Oeben was also renowned for his delicate floral marquetry.

Description
Tafel versierd met marqueterie van roze-, palissander, wortelhout en andere houtsoorten en met verguld brons. De overhoeks geplaatste, gestrekt S-vormige poten dragen onder en boven beslag; boven met ramskoppen. De regels en het, door een verguld bronzen band omgeven, blad vertonen binnen gebiesde velden bloementakken in marqueterie; midden op het blad een bloemenmand. De poten zijn van voren in banen belijmd. De voorregel met lichtgebogen middenstuk en gestrekt S-vormige zijstukken is geheel uitschuifbaar.
