Ruud van Empel, 2005

Van Empel began his World series in 2005, staging Black children amid idyllic yet unreal landscapes. The figures of children represent innocence. These photographs have been widely imitated worldwide, for example, in fashion reportages. They also grace the covers of books by Black writers such as Maryse Condé and Farah Jasmine Griffin.
