Jacques de Gheyn (II), 1596 - 1601
The eyes in this woman’s gaunt and sunken face seem unnaturally large. De Gheyn clearly focused on her face and folded hands, portraying them in great detail. The clothing and bedcovers, in contrast, are depicted much more sketchily.
