Wadded Coat (douillette)

In French douillette means soft, smooth, and comfortable. These wadded coats became fashionable in the Netherlands from the 1820s. This one has a matching ornamented belt at the back. The origin of the puffed sleeves, filled and gathered by means of vertical bands, is found in the 16th century.

    Redingote van blauwe satijn, gevoerd met crême zijde met dikke tussenvoering. Lijfje met rechte taillenaad. Vijfbaans rok die van voren glad valt en van achter in diepe plooien. Dubbele, gladde kraag bestaande uit een pellerienachtige strook en een opstaande smallere kraag. Lange mouwen die over de hand vallen, versierd met een pofmouwtje. In de taille is een ceintuur aangehecht, waarvan de uiteinden versierd zijn met knoop- en kwastversieringen.
