Vincent Paets (1658-1702), ambassadeur vanwege de Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie naar het keizerrijk China, 1685-1687<BR />Paets leidde de vierde poging van de V.O.C. om een verdrag met de Keizer van China te sluiten. De Chinezen beschouwden ambassades slechts als erkenning van de superioriteit van China boven alle andere landen. De keizer was dan ook beslist niet van plan de Hollanders vrije handel met zijn land toe te staan. Evenals de drie vroegere missies mislukte ook de zending van Paets.
