Vase

The Sèvres porcelain factory (1738) always tried to keep up with the times. By attracting modern artists, it ensured a supply of fresh, contemporary designs. This impressively tall vase is a fine example of innovations at Sèvres. The ornamentation of white and purple clematis with ochre-coloured thistles and the butterflies on the decora-tive railing at bottom reflect the influence of Japanese art, which was then extremely popular.

    Vaas van porselein, achthoekig van vorm, op een verguld bronzen voet (B). Beschilderd in wit, donkergeel en paars en met blauwe contouren met een decor van bosranken (clematis vitalba) en distels op beige fond. Langs de voetrand een rand in blauw van dooreengestrengelde banden, die een symmetrisch ornament vormen met afwisselend op de ribben een vlinder en een dubbel &-teken. Hiertussen bevindt zich de signatuur van de schilder (LG) in onderglazuurblauw. De vaas is gemerkt in de hals met het fabricagemerk: S 1908 in een driehoek en een merk voor de beschildering 'décoré à Sèvres 1908' in een cirkel.
