Untitled (Constructivist Composition)
Corneille (signed by artist), 1948
Corneille, along with Karel Appel and Constant (on view elsewhere in this gallery), was part of Cobra, an international group of artists who published a magazine of the same name between 1948 and 1951. What united them was not a style but a way of working: direct, spontaneous, experimental. In this drawing, Corneille played with fan-shaped patterns and garlands of triangles through a construction of red lines.
