Getting started with the collection:
Two tobacco jars
Johannes Schiotling, 1776
Pairs of silver tobacco jars adorned many Dutch tables. In crafting these pieces, Johannes Schiotling opted for a rather conservative design. The straight shape and laurel garland exude the atmosphere of Neoclassicism. Meanwhile, the rocailles shell motifs and the curled leaf at the base still align with an earlier pictorial idiom, namely that of the Rococo.
