Two candlesticks

Adam Loofs, 1687

Adam Loofs was silversmith and silver steward to Stadtholder William III. After having worked for King Louis XIV in Paris, he moved to The Hague in 1680. These candlesticks may have been made for William III. They are based directly on the silver furnishings and other objects at Versailles.

    Ronde kandelaar, bestaande uit een voet, een stam in de vorm van een staande vrouwenfiguur, een vetvanger en een kaarsenhouder. Op de rechtwandige basis rust de gewelfde voet, die is versierd met een rand van afwisselend palmetten en acanthusbladeren. Gemerkt en gedateerd.
