Twee molenaars om lege vaten te lossen. Deze bestaat uit een schacht met een ring bovenaan en armen draaiend in het andere, gevorkte eind. Een van de armen heeft een gat om zijn gewicht te verminderen, zodat de armen gewoonlijk verticaal hangen; zo werd zij door een gat in een vat neergelaten, de armen werden horizontaal gezet en het vat kon gelicht worden.

Entry

Two can hooks for empty casks (NG-MC-588-1 and NG-MC-588-2).

The hooks consist of a shaft with a ring at one end and a crossbar which turns in the forked end. One of the arms of the crossbar has a hole to reduce its weight, so that the crossbar usually hangs in a vertical position. The hook was lowered through a hole in an empty cask, the crossbar would then be set horizontally and the cask could be lifted.

These can hooks were acquired from George Stebbing (1775-1847) in Portsmouth by Julius Constantijn Rijk (1787-1854) during his voyage to the United Kingdom and the United States in the sloop of war Pallas in 1825.2J.C.
