Two Boars

Karel du Jardin (mentioned on object), 1656

Karel du Jardin grew up in the Northern Netherlands and his contemporary Jan van den Hecke in the Southern Netherlands. Animals were a recurrent theme in their oeuvres, particularly in prints. Both artists lived in Rome for several years. Van den Hecke worked there for Duke Paolo Giordano II Orsini, who died in 1656 and to whom he dedicated this print.
