Two framed plaques

Attributed to De Witte Ster (Dammas Hofdijck and Jacobus de Lange), Delft, c. 1690–1705, tin-glazed earthenware (faience)

These plaques were made as ready-to-display faience paintings. The ornamental frames, plaques and hooks form a whole. Being of earthenware, the plaques could be hung in places that were not suitable for ordinary paintings, such as walls flooded with light or kitchens.
