Links de houten kerk te Malye Karmakuly. Blad 25 verso en blad 26 recto uit een schetsboek met 35 bladen betekend tijdens de expeditie naar Nova Zembla in 1880.

Mogelijk wilde hij op één van de schetsen of op een eventuele uitgewerkte versie hiervan het zogenaamde Nova Zembla-effect weergeven, gezien de annotatie 'fata morgana'. De schets van de kerk is een voorstudie voor de tekening 'De kerk te Karmakuli op Nova Zembla', 1880, Scheepvaartmuseum (inv.nr. S.0394(17)).
