Two Women Looking at Art

Manuel Robbe, 1898

One woman looks at a painting on an easel, the other at the works on paper below it. The French printmaker Manuel Robbe created many advertisements for the Paris publisher Edmond Sagot. Although this drawing was not intended as an advertisement, it demonstrates just what made his commercial work successful, namely his ability to capture the quiet and refined culture at the end of the 19th century.
