Mocking depictions of intimacy between two men are not always about sexuality. The Russian emperor Nicholas II and the French president Émile Loubet kiss each other here as a sign of friendship between two nations. The print pokes fun at the so-called peace, because they are ignoring the wars raging around them. Male affection here is equated with political immorality.
