Three Vases

Meissener Porzellan Manufaktur, c. 1730 - c. 1735

Meissen porcelain vases were often sold in sets and displayed on mantelpieces or furniture. These sets consisted of at least three vases, but often five or more. The porcelain is decorated with painted caricatural Chinese figures in shallow, imaginary landscapes. This set was produced in the workshop of Johann Gregorius Höroldt, the most important painter to ever work at Meissen.

    Zeshoekige vaas met deksel, van beschilderd porselein. Langs de voet loopt een band met gearceerde driehoeken in goud. Op de ribben van vaas en deksel zijn bladranken in goud geschilderd die op de buik lopen en op de schouder in een rozet samenkomen. Op de zes zijden zijn grootfigurige Höroldt-chinoiserieën geschilderd met oa. een zwarte dienaar die een schaal met vaatwerk aan een onder een palmboom, op een stoel gezeten dame brengt. De vaas is gemerkt.
