The Triumph of Death

Boëtius Adamsz. Bolswert (mentioned on object), 1610

Death, in the guise of a human skeleton with a fleshy face, shoots three arrows at the same time. People from all walks of life try to defend themselves: in vain, naturally. In their panic they reach for their most trusted attributes: the soldier grabs his two-handed sword; the doctor his urine flask; the king his sceptre; and the blind old man his crutch.
