De minnebrief. Interieur waarin een zittende jonge vrouw stopt met het klossen van kant om een brief te lezen die gebracht is door de andere jonge vrouw (een dienstmaagd?) die achter haar staat. Links zit een oude vrouw te slapen in een stoel met een opengeslagen boek, waarop haar bril ligt, op haar schoot. Op de vloer ligt een hond. Op de achtergrond gluurt een man met hoed, de schrijver van de brief, door het gordijn. Rechts een grote kamerscherm.
