The Lighthouse of Alexandria

Magdalena van de Passe (mentioned on object), 1614

Magdalena de Passe was just fourteen years old when she made this contribution to the family workshop’s print production as a full-fledged engraver. They are the first engravings she signed and are part of a series of depictions of the seven wonders of the ancient world. In both prints, De Passe created depth by engraving the background lighter than the foreground.
