The Garden of Serenity

Song Bolu (signed by artist), 1922

This painting depicts the visit of a friend to a scholar in the garden of his home, where he escapes from society to live as a reclusive hermit. The artist did not aim to render a realistic landscape, but rather make an idealized portrait of the life of a hermit.
