Getting started with the collection:
The Frederiksplein, Amsterdam, during the Entry of Queen Wilhelmina, 5 September 1898
Otto Eerelman, 1898 - 1900
The Royal Procession in Amsterdam, 5 September 1898, by O. Eerelman, before 1900. On 5 September 1898 Queen Wilhelmina (1880 - 1962) arrived with her mother Queen-Regent Emma (1858 - 1934) by train at Amsterdam's Weesperpoort station. The next day Emma was to abdicate the regency and her eighteen-year-old daughter was to be invested as queen in the New Church. Otto Eerelman (1839 - 1926) painted the procession towards the Palace on Dam Square as it passed Frederiksplein. In the background is the Palace of National Industry (Paleis voor Volksvlijt). The artist probably painted the picture without a commission. In 1900 a group of art enthusiasts donated the work to the Rijksmuseum.
