This little print reproduces a painting with a diameter of 160 centimetres. It was exhibited in 1806 under the neutral title A Fancy Picture. However, it was soon recognized as a portrait of the mistress of the marquis of Abercorn, with their little boy. The title of the print The Faithful Friend refers to their huge newfoundland in the foreground.
