The Double Bridge in the Morning

Kawase Hasui (mentioned on object), 1930-12

Shin-hanga prints were made in the traditional manner under the direction of a publisher. An artist created the design, a woodblock cutter carved the line block and the various colour blocks, and a printer pressed the design on paper. This cooperation between artists and specialized craftsmen resulted in crisply detailed prints that sometimes make you forget that what you are looking at is a woodcut and not a watercolour.
