The Construction of the Covered Market

anonymous, 1893

In 1893 a new large covered market was erected in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis. It was designed by the engineer Durupt, whose name is visible on the girder on the ground. The photograph probably only served as an architectural record: otherwise it would not have been stamped so flatly on the front with the words ponts & charpentes en fer (bridges and iron constructions).
