This trial piece for the tile pictures on the outside of the Rijksmuseum was considered technically unsuitable, the choice falling on that made by the firm of Villeroy & Boch of Mettlach. This version was mounted above the entrance to the Drawing School adjacent to the museum building. Acquired with support of Christie's Amsterdam on the occasion of the departure of Professor H.W. van Os as Director General of the Rijksmuseum, 1996.
