Teapot

On the bottom of this teapot is an inscription composed of eight Chinese characters: Dingchou dongri Yongqing fanggu, which translates as ‘made by Yongqing in the style of old masters on a winter day in the year of Ding Chou.’ Once the teapot was in Europe, it was fitted with a gold chain to keep the pot and its cover together.

    Theepot van rood steengoed met gouden montuur. Met eivormig, iets platgedrukt lichaam, gebogen tuit, c-vormig oor; plat deksel met verlaagde band, afgeplatte knop met gouden bloemrozet. Acht karakters op de onderzijde met 'Dingchou dongyi yongqing fanggu', betekent: Door Yongqing gemaakt in de stijl van de oude meesters op een winterdag in het jaar dīngchǒu. Yixing.
