Tea Canister

Meissener Porzellan Manufaktur, c. 1715

This hexagonal, baluster-shaped tea canister was made in Germany. The potters derived inspiration from Chinese examples, but used local clay and pottery techniques. For instance, this canister is made of dark red clay and was shaped in a mould. The teapots from China were hand-made from a single slab of clay.

    Theebus, zeskantig, van rood Böttger-steengoed met een ronde, afgeplatte dop. De zes zijden zijn in laag reliëf versierd met twee afwisselende bloem- en bladranken. Op de eerste rank zit een vogel, terwijl een tweede vogel overvliegt; boven de tweede rank vliegt een vogel in de lucht. Op de dop een bladrank in reliëf. De theebus is niet gemerkt.
