Still Life

Elly Tamminga, 1906 - 1983

In preparing this presentation it was discovered that the gouache in Elly Tamminga’s works had detached from the ground in places. Moreover, a shiny underlayer was exposed along some of the contours. Could this be because she painted her gouaches on photographic prints? Conservators at the Rijksmuseum are currently investigating whether this was the case. If so, this would represent a unique working method.
