St Nicholas Game

anonymous, Jan Vlieger (mentioned on object), c. 1885

This is an exceptionally fine boardgame with Gothic Revival features. Particularly instructive is the image at the ‘end’ of the game. One boy has been good and is collecting his presents from Saint Nicholas. Five others are kept outside and admonished by an obviously agitated Pete. They look in with crestfallen, and in some cases tearful, faces.
