Spouted jug

anonymous, c. 1580

This jug was used to pour wine. It is made of stoneware, a kind of clay pottery that is fired at an extremely high temperature. The result is a hard, non-porous material excellently suited for containing liquids. The joint between the neck and the spout is shaped like a human arm, with a hand resting on the spout.

  • Description

    Kan van steengoed op hoge voet met een bolvormig lichaam en wijde nek. Het C-vormige oor is bevestigd aan de nek en de schouder. Vanuit de buik een lange, rechte tuit, door middel van een brug verbonden aan de nek. Op de basis van de tuit in reliëf een gedrukte en opgelegde, gekroonde baardman. De tuit is in reliëf versierd met decoratieve banden. De kan is gevat in een tinnen montuur met deksel. Raeren.
