Shiva

anonymous, 850 - 900

Hindu religion and mythology feature elements of the animal world. The Hindu god Shiva is often depicted riding on a bull, but is here shown supported by a seated figure with a bull’s head. Animal strength is also apparent in images of Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva, who is worshipped as the remover of obstacles.
