Writing table

Jean François Oeben, c. 1760

Jean-François Oeben specialised in the making of small, multifunctional pieces of furniture. This table could be used as a reading, writing and dressing table. The top of this mechanical table can slide backwards, revealing a drawer unit with a writing surface.<br>

    Tafel versierd met marqueterie van roze-, palissander, wortelhout en andere houtsoorten en met verguld brons. De overhoeks geplaatste, gestrekt S-vormige poten dragen onder en boven beslag; boven met ramskoppen. De regels en het, door een verguld bronzen band omgeven, blad vertonen binnen gebiesde velden bloementakken in marqueterie; midden op het blad een bloemenmand. De poten zijn van voren in banen belijmd. De voorregel met lichtgebogen middenstuk en gestrekt S-vormige zijstukken is geheel uitschuifbaar.
