Saddled Horse

anoniem, c. 400 - c. 500

The small head of this sturdy horse is aimed straight ahead, with the forelocks of its mane protruding between its pricked-up ears. The harness is lavishly and meticulously decorated with hangers, stylized flowers, and ornaments on its rear legs. This kind of terracotta horse served as a burial good, and was usually part of a group with which it formed a parade.
