Seat of justice, Ambon, 1709. In areas that fell within the jurisdiction of the Company, it was VOC officials who dispensed justice. This chair was probably made on Ambon. On the back is a coat of arms with a lion. Underneath is the year, 1709, and the VOC monogram.

  • Description

    Armstoel van Indonesisch hout. Rugleuning en zitting met riet bespannen. Geslingerde poten, door een dubbel Y-vormig kruis verbonden. De armleggerstutten en de vrijstaande rugstijlen zijn eveneens geslingerd. De geholde armleggers eindigen in voluten. Het zitraam is aan de voorzijde geprofileerd. De boven- en onderregel en de stijlen van het hoge rugraam vertonen uitschulpingen. De bovenregel heeft in het midden een gekroond wapen, waarin een klimmende leeuw met zwaard en pijlbundel; daaronder het jaartal 1709 en VOC. Op de achterstijlen gedraaide bollen.
