Purse

anoniem, c. 1825

In the early 19th century, all of Europe was held in the grip of the Napoleonic wars, and all of the gold and silver was used to fill the treasuries. As a consequence, steel became fashionable; it was sometimes gilded or silverplated and could be polished to a shine. This material remained popular into the 1820s.
