These photographs feature machines manufactured by Machinefabriek Braat in Surabaya for colonial enterprises in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). These machines were primarily intended for large sugar mills. A clearly displayed text board provides an explanation of the machines and Indonesian factory workers are included to give a sense of scale for their size.
