Portrait of Thérèsia Ansingh

Lizzy Ansingh (mentioned on object), 1885 - 1959

Lizzy Ansingh received her first drawing lessons from her aunt, the celebrated portraitist Thérèse Schwartze, whose work is also on view in this gallery. This telling likeness of Lizzy’s sister Thérèsia bespeaks her talent for drawing. Later in her career, Ansingh would become the first woman to join the board of an artists’ association and make an important contribution to the influence of women in the Amsterdam art world.
