Portret van Pieter Ernst Hendrik Praetorius, makelaar, tekenaar en schilder. Voorzitter van de raad van bestuur van het Rijksmuseum 1852-1874. Zittende halffiguur, naar rechts kijkend. Gekleed in een donker kostuum met wit plastron. De rechterhand steunt tegen het gezicht, terwijl de elleboog op een map met tekeningen rust waar zijn naam op één van de uitstekende bladen voorkomt. Rechts tegen het tafelkleed een stukje van de stoelleuning.
